Our scientists in the RHIC / AGS User's Executive Committee!

The aim of the RHIC / AGS User's Executive Committee is to provide an organized channel of information exchange between BNL authorities and the administration and scientists working for all pillars of the laboratory: nuclear, high energy, heavy ions and radiobiology. The Committee will inform about the needs and plans of people actively involved in leading research projects and ensure good information exchange, which is to allow for a better assessment of the needs and plans of scientists and consequently apply into effective use of the RHIC / AGS experimental complex.

Spin-polarized droplets in the unitary Fermi gas

ABSTRACT

We demonstrate the existence of a type of spatially localized excitations in the unitary Fermi gas: spin-polarized droplets with a peculiar internal structure involving an abrupt change in the pairing phase at the surface of the droplet. It resembles the structure of the Josephson-π junction occurring when a slice of a ferromagnet is sandwiched between two superconductors. The stability of the impurity is enhanced by the mutual interplay between the polarization effects and the pairing field, resulting in an exceptionally long-lived state. The prospects for its realization in experiments are discussed.

New TOP500 Supercomputer list

November 18th top500.org published new list of the best supercomputers on Earth. China and USA still dominates the list, but in different categories. Total computing power of all machines is still growing and reaches 1.65 exaFLOP. Entry level went up to 1.14 PFLOPS, went up from 1.02 PFLOPS since the last list from June 2019.

In memoriam Marka Peryta

New Publication about quarkonium and hadrons

New publication by: Marzieh Bahmania, Daniel Kikoła and Leszek Kosarzewski

The primary purpose of experimental high-energy nuclear physics is to investigate the properties of the Quark-Gluon Plasma (QGP), a matter in local thermal equilibrium with quark and gluon degrees of freedom. Such a state of matter existed in the early Universe, and we can create it for a short while in heavy-ion collisions with high enough energy density.

Consolidation of the PW leadership of the antiprotonic atoms program at AEgIS experiment at CERN

The international collaboration of the AEgIS experiment at CERN has nominated Dr Georgy Kornakov, assistant professor of the Physics Faculty of PW, on 14/9/2021 for the Convenership for Physics with Antiprotonic Atoms. This position will be shared with Dr Giovanni Cerchiari from University of Innsbruck. This nomination strengthens the leadership position of the PW team within the AEgIS experiment.
